Detailed Clinical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate seamlessly into the existing pathology team, providing high‑quality diagnostic reporting and specimen management. Key duties include:
- Specimen Dissection & Trimming: Comprehensive management of various cases, ensuring precise trimming and preparation.
- Gastrointestinal (GI) Biopsies: High‑volume reporting of GI biopsy samples with clinical accuracy.
- General Surgical Pathology: Reporting on simple surgical cases, including but not limited to:
- Appendix, Tonsils, and Cysts.
- Bowel resections from IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) cases.
- Foreskin and simple skin lesions.
- Kidney resections.
- Paediatric Oncology Support: Performing the primary trim of specific paediatric tumours, such as Wilms tumours and neuroblastomas. This includes essential tissue banking protocols and detailed macroscopic descriptions. Please note that these cases will be sent off‑site for secondary trimming and final reporting.
Essential Criteria & Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following stringent requirements:
- GMC Registration: Full and specialist registration with a current Licence to Practise.
- Specialist Expertise: A proven track record in Paediatric Histopathology is mandatory.
- CV Requirement: Only candidates submitting paediatric‑specific CVs will be considered. CVs that do not explicitly demonstrate experience in the aforementioned paediatric tumour trimming and reporting will be disregarded.
