Evolve Staffing Ltd is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Consultant in General Internal Medicine to join a forward-thinking clinical team based at Hereford. This role is designed for a physician who excels in managing a wide spectrum of clinical problems, ranging from acutely ill younger patients to elderly patients presenting with complex, multiple comorbidities. As a lead clinician, you will direct treatment plans and orchestrate specialist care, ensuring high-quality inpatient and outpatient experiences within a ward-based multidisciplinary team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical Excellence: Diagnose and treat patients who fall outside specific medical specialties or those with complex symptoms requiring expert internal medicine intervention.
- Inpatient Management: Oversee a dedicated inpatient bed base, including responsibility for medical outliers on surgical wards.
- On-Call Commitment: Participate in the weekend general medical on-call rota, typically on a 1 in 13 basis.
- Leadership & Supervision: Provide clinical and educational supervision for Foundation trainees and clinical fellows, including those working towards CESR in G(I)M.
- Service Development: Lead weekly ward huddles, mortality and morbidity meetings, and contribute to the evolution of the department’s training structure.
- Governance & Research: Actively engage in clinical governance, robust audit practices, and annual appraisals. We also provide an infrastructure that supports recruitment to NIHR and commercial research studies.
Essential Criteria
- Professional Registration: Full GMC Registration with a License to Practise.
- Specialist Status: Must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining Specialist Registration in General Internal Medicine at the time of interview.
- Qualifications: MRCP or an equivalent recognized postgraduate qualification.
- Clinical Experience: Proven experience in the management of both inpatient and outpatient general medical patients, with a history of participating in general medical on-calls at the Registrar or Consultant level.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead a team, make critical decisions under pressure, and exert appropriate authority while maintaining empathy.
Desirable Attributes
- Academic Achievement: Possession of a higher degree (MD/PhD) or a postgraduate qualification in teaching and training.
- Educational Impact: A proven track record of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a willingness to develop new pedagogical approaches.
- Research & Publications: History of peer-reviewed publications or a completed thesis.
- Advanced Management: Prior management experience or specialized training in medical education.
