As an SpR, you will play a crucial role in managing a diverse caseload of acute and chronic eye conditions, running specialized medical retina and glaucoma clinics, and supporting the surgical roster in a modern NHS environment.
Core Clinical Responsibilities:
- Lead independent outpatient ophthalmology clinics, managing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
- Perform routine ophthalmic surgeries, notably phacoemulsification (cataract surgery), under the supervision or mentorship of a Consultant.
- Act as the senior clinician on-call for acute ophthalmic emergencies, providing expert guidance to SHOs and nursing staff.
- Participate heavily in departmental clinical governance, morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings, and medical research.
Essential Candidate Requirements:
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a valid licence to practise.
- Substantial post-graduate clinical experience at the Specialist Registrar (ST3+) or equivalent middle-grade level in Ophthalmology.
- FRCOphth Parts 1 and 2 (or equivalent) are highly desirable for this level of clinical responsibility.
