£40k basic plus Company Estate Car, fully expensed plus overnight accommodation and meals.
The Job
You will work from home and travel to site to calibrate and carry out basic maintenance (and occasional repair work) on audiometric equipment at hospitals, clinics, health centres etc. You will utilise a custom-designed calibration system (ADACS) which controls the calibration process and generates calibration certificates, job reports etc. After completion of initial training period, you will be working alone but will have the technical and administrative back-up of the Birmingham laboratory and other on-site engineers. A company car/estate will be provided, fully expensed. You will report to the Technical Manager.
Place of Work
Although based at home you will work at company and customer sites throughout the UK with priority for customers within your local area.
Duties and responsibilities
- Calibration of audiometric equipment at customer’s premises. The on-site calibration will be working from schedules provided by the company sales and admin team.
- Repair and maintenance of audiometric equipment when required – usually limited to minor repairs at customer’s premises.
- Any duty that may be assigned by the Technical Manager in accordance with the work undertaken by GM and is deemed by the Technical Manager to be within the capability of the Calibration Engineer.
- To be aware of and work within the procedures outlined in the company ISO 9001 quality system and UKAS accreditation.
- To achieve and retain UKAS signatory status.
- To ensure that all equipment entrusted to your care is maintained in good working condition and vehicles issued to you are maintained and serviced within the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions.
- To provide customer feedback of future requirements and promote the company, the group and its products and services.
- To set an example of good engineering practice.
- To be courteous to customers at all times.
- To advise customers and colleagues of issues arising during the site visit.
Qualifications/Requirements
Education
- Minimum HNC/HND in an appropriate electronics, science or engineering discipline.
Specialised knowledge
- Some prior knowledge of calibration would be advantageous however not essential as full training will be provided.
Skills
- Basic electronic debug skills including the use of debug equipment.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation and procedures.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good communication and customer care skills.
Abilities
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work alone without supervision.
- You should have a smart personal appearance.
- Initiative to take decisions and advise customers of the best course of action where there are requirements for repair to equipment.
- Job planning to maximize on site time and minimize the requirement for return visits and overnight accommodation.
- PC literate (Microsoft Windows).
- Ability to use Microsoft Office© packages including Word, Outlook & Excel.
Working conditions
There is a requirement to work flexibly, to start early in order to maximize time on site and to manage hours so that the demands of the job do not become excessive and oppressive. To comply with rules and regulations imposed by Customers.

Physical requirements
The job is physically demanding with occasional unsociable hours. There is a requirement to travel long distances and to ensure that adequate breaks are taken to avoid tiredness and to handle heavy test equipment safely.
