We have three Edinburgh based clients all looking to add an experienced IT Service Desk Engineer to their teams. The roles range from dedicated 1st line roles, up to roles that are a mix of 2nd/3rd technical support with involvement in a range of IT projects.

About the roles: In all three roles, you’ll provide dedicated technical support across a M365/Windows estates, taking ownership of incidents and service requests coming in to the IT Service Desk. You’ll diagnose and fix issues in person and via phone/email/remote tools, collaborate closely with colleagues and vendors, and contribute to planned maintenance and small projects throughout the year. All three roles require 5 days onsite in various Edinburgh locations, Monday to Friday. One of our clients does require you to have a valid UK Driving Licence.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as a first point of contact for the Service Desk, owning tickets end‑to‑end and keeping users informed throughout.
  • Support core platforms and services including Windows 11, Microsoft 365/Entra ID, Intune, Active Directory, with some macOS in play, Wi‑Fi, and AV equipment.
  • Administer and use Intune/Autopilot and Jamf for build, deployment and device compliance; maintain security, asset and knowledge base records.
  • Collaborate on improvement initiatives (e.g., software asset management, rolling device refresh, self‑service portal) and contribute documentation and handovers.
  • Plan and execute maintenance with minimal client disruption; escalate risks promptly and communicate clearly with stakeholders.

What we’re looking for:

  • Solid 1st and 2nd line support experience in a busy, customer‑focused environment, with strong troubleshooting and decision‑making under pressure.
  • Practical experience across Windows devices; confidence with AD administration and endpoint management (Jamf, Intune, Autopilot).

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
