A leading global hedge fund is seeking to appoint a Managing Director, Head of Applied AI to lead the development and deployment of advanced AI capabilities across the investment lifecycle. This is a senior, high-impact role focused on embedding cutting-edge AI, including generative and agentic AI, directly into front office workflows to drive alpha generation, enhance decision-making, and unlock new sources of revenue.
This individual will sit at the intersection of investment, technology, and data, working closely with Portfolio Managers, Quant Researchers, and Technology teams to build and scale AI-driven capabilities across the organisation. Open to London, Hong Kong or Singapore location. Salary range: $500,000 USD
Key Responsibilities- Define and execute the firm’s Applied AI strategy, with a strong emphasis on front office use cases that directly impact P&L.
- Partner with Portfolio Managers and investment teams to integrate AI into portfolio management workflows, including idea generation, signal enhancement, trade execution, and risk management.
- Lead the development of next-generation AI use cases, including:
- Generative AI for research, summarisation, and investment insights
- Agentic AI systems to automate and augment investment processes
- AI-driven decision-support tools for traders and PMs
- Extensive experience within the buy side (hedge fund, asset manager, or proprietary trading firm).
- Proven track record of applying AI/ML within investment workflows, particularly in front office environments.
- Deep expertise in applied AI, including machine learning, generative AI (LLMs), and emerging agentic AI frameworks.
- Strong understanding of portfolio management processes, trading strategies, and market dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex AI capabilities into commercial outcomes and revenue impact.
- Experience building and leading cross-functional teams spanning investment, data, and engineering.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior investment professionals.
- Technical fluency in modern AI/ML stacks, data platforms, and cloud environments.
