Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation. As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.
As part of our current high-growth phase, we are creating our Research and Technology (R&T) team and are looking for a Principal Technical Specialist – Control to join the team. The R&T team is responsible for the development of new systems, electric machines and power control electronics in support of new and existing customers. This includes electric propulsion systems, electrical generation systems and power management systems for all-electric and hybrid-electric aircraft.
As the Principal Technical Specialist - Control, you will lead the analysis and development of state-of-the-art control systems algorithms for the Evolito controller products. Key responsibilities will include:
- Carry out control system analysis, system identification and design for control system algorithms, focusing on performance, robustness, and safety
- Lead technical discussions with customers
- Support rigorous peer reviews of control system software development
- Work with academic institutions, carry out literature searches/attend conferences as required to develop the required technical solutions
- Develop and review testing methodologies/plans along with other team members to meet customer requirements covering all Evolito systems
- Mentor other related specialist engineers, as required, to develop and optimise control systems to achieve desired performance metrics, robustness and safety.
Skills and experience required:
- Degree or PhD in control/electrical/mechanical/mechatronics engineering or similar
- Proven multi-year experience researching and developing and analysing control algorithms
- Excellent understanding of control engineering theory through research and hands-on experience
- Instinctive problem-solving skills coupled with a sound analytical approach
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A flexible approach to work.
Desirable:
- Experience developing model-based software for code generation in safety-critical applications, using tools like Embedded Coder or similar
- Experience in the development of embedded software products to RTCA DO-178C (or DO-178B) DAL A or B (or ISO26262).
