Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.
As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.
As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Lead Material Process Engineer to join our Materials Team to own the material process characterization and selection processes essential for airworthiness certification.
Key responsibilities will include:
Lead and manage the characterization of materials, including determining physical and mechanical properties, through both in-house testing and outsourcing to approved test houses
Develop and implement data processing methodologies and tools, process materials data, and manage data uploads to the Granta materials database
Evolve and refine test procedures to ensure the long-term integrity of materials used in our products
Utilize knowledge of polymers and elastomers for testing, failure analysis, and moulding processes
Provide detailed input to the research team to ensure designs meet functionality and manufacturability requirements
Advise the design team on the development of new processes and parts, and on the application and selection of new materials
Report and present experimental results and analyses to the team
Support the production team in new build activities, particularly in transferring new processes to production
Oversee the management of the materials database
Investigate and select new materials for various applications
Conduct thorough failure investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Develop new manufacturing processes and establish quality controls and checks.
Skills and experience required:
Degree or equivalent in Materials Engineering or related discipline
Previous experience working within a relevant industry, ideally automotive or aerospace
Strong materials engineering background and ability to apply this knowledge to real-world situations
Good knowledge of a wide range of materials and their manufacturing, including metals, polymers, composites, and adhesives
Creative problem solver, with an analytical approach to implementing solutions
Confident with customers and suppliers
A flexible approach to work with the desire to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
A 'self-starter' attitude with energy and enthusiasm, with the ability to thrive in a small business environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
UK driving license and ability to travel.
