Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation. Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation. As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.
As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Materials Engineer to support materials characterisation on our path to airworthiness certification. The role also involves materials selection, testing and analysis in a range of diverse applications, working throughout the entire product lifecycle from design to manufacturing to flight.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and conducting the characterisation of materials
- Conducting in-house testing as well as outsourcing to approved test houses
- Providing detailed input into the design team to ensure that a design meets the requirements for functionality and manufacture; and advising on the application and selection of new materials in our products
- Supporting the manufacturing team in the development and continuous improvement of production processes
- Conducting and contributing to failure investigations
- Developing data processing methodologies and tools, process materials data and manage the materials database
- Creating test procedures for the verification of long-term materials integrity of our products
- Working with the supply chain team to select and audit suppliers
- Reporting and presentation of experiments and results to the wider team.
Skills and experience required:
- Degree or equivalent in Materials Engineering or related discipline
- Previous experience carrying out and supporting materials characterisation work, for example mechanical or thermal testing
- Strong materials engineering background and ability to apply this knowledge to real-world situations
- Previous experience working within a relevant industry, ideally aerospace or automotive
- Knowledge of a wide range of materials and their manufacturing, including metals, polymers, composites, and adhesives
- Creative problem solver, with an analytical approach to implementing solutions
- Confident with customers and suppliers
- A flexible approach to work with the desire to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
- A 'self-starter' attitude with energy and enthusiasm, with the ability to thrive in a small business environment
- Approachable and friendly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- UK driving license and ability to travel.
- Previous experience of certifying materials for use in aerospace, including special process verification
