Overview
Senior Power Electronics Engineer to design and develop power electronics for electric propulsion systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with aerospace standards.
Responsibilities
- Design and development of high-voltage (greater than 400V to 1k V) three-phase inverter systems for electric propulsion.
- Undertake analysis of three-phase inverters, including dynamic switching characteristics, efficiency, and thermal performance.
- Design differential and common-mode filters for high-voltage applications.
- Design failure detection and protection systems for high-voltage wide-bandgap devices.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of electronics design, including analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and design verification.
- Conduct formal design reviews, FMEA, and laboratory validation of power electronic systems.
- Lead root-cause investigations of failures and define corrective actions, coordinating cross-functional teams with structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Deliver technical reports and design documentation to support certification activities and regulatory approvals.
- Ensure adherence to Evolito internal standards and applicable aviation industry regulations.
- Contribute to the advancement of departmental technologies, capabilities, facilities, and processes.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable industrial experience.
- Previous proven experience in electronics design, preferably within aerospace, defence, or automotive industries.
- Strong understanding and experience with one or more of the following: wide-bandgap switching devices (Si C MOSFETs), gate drive design and protection circuits, EMC analysis including magnetic design for filters, DC link filter design including capacitor selection, DC current ripple analysis including mitigation strategies.
- Experience with application of Si C MOSFETs in a high-voltage, high-altitude environment is desirable.
- Experience in modelling, simulation, and analysis of power devices for inverter systems.
- Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and LTSpice.
- Knowledge of FEMM simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell is desirable.
- Proficient in ECAD software for schematic capture and PCB layout; strong expertise in Altium Designer is essential.
- Skilled in performing design analysis, including worst-case error, tolerance, thermal, and component stress analysis.
- Familiarity with Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Hands-on experience with power electronics design verification and fault diagnosis.
- Experience with Double Pulse Tests, MOSFET thermal path characterization, and motor integration tests is highly desirable.
- Experience in parameter validation of wide-bandgap devices and related test platforms.
- Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscope, function generator, impedance analyser, etc.
- Experience in generating technical documentation for project milestones and regulatory approvals.
- Knowledge of developing products that comply with aerospace design and test standards (ARP4754A/DO254/DO160) is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
