Role Overview: We are seeking a Metrology Engineer to develop and execute the metrology strategy that supports business objectives, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the metrology strategy to align with business goals, industry standards, regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to define measurement requirements and tolerances.
  • Lead capability studies and measurement system analysis (MSA) to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
  • Perform dimensional and geometric verification using advanced metrology tools such as CMM, laser scanners, and optical systems.
  • Analyse measurement data to identify trends, deviations, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Train and mentor technicians and engineers on metrology principles, equipment use, and best practices.
  • Ensure ‘Best Practice’ is adopted in the selection of inspection techniques, equipment and acceptance criteria.
  • Establish and maintain calibration procedures for measurement equipment and systems in accordance with aerospace standards (AS9100, ISO 17025, ISO 10012).
  • Ensure traceability of measurements to national/ international standards.
  • Manage calibration schedules, records, and compliance documentation.
  • Support Manufacturing and Quality teams with measurement‑related troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
  • Support internal and external audits, including customer and regulatory inspections.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in a metrology or dimensional inspection role within the aerospace or precision engineering sector.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience with CMM programming and operation (e.g., PC‑DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS).
  • Understanding of statistical analysis and measurement uncertainty.
  • Proficiency in metrology software and data analysis tools.
  • Instinctive problem‑solving skills with a sound analytical approach.
  • A self‑starter attitude with energy and enthusiasm, able to thrive in a small business environment.
  • Capacity to work under pressure while managing conflicting demands against tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • UK driving licence and ability to travel.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a Tier1 environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO17025, AS9100, ISO10012 standards.
