As Head of Building Compliance & Services you will have full responsibility for the productivity and service provision of our Regional Building Surveyor, Building Compliance & Development teams in relation to the retail shop estate, racecourses & stadia portfolio. You will report directly to the Director of Retail Support & Experience, working closely with Business Efficiency, Retail Contact & Loss Prevention, Building Services, and Retail Operations teams, as well as key third-party suppliers and internal stakeholders, to ensure all planned and reactive building maintenance activities are delivered to the highest standard and in line with agreed SLAs.

Responsibilities

  • Hold full responsibility for service delivery and productivity of Regional Building Surveyors & Building Compliance & Development teams.
  • Ensure full compliance and adherence to all statutory and regulatory requirements across the estate, including asbestos, electrical testing, HVAC, fire safety, signage, pest control and lift regulations.
  • Oversee FM contingency spend, ensuring expenditure is reviewed, controlled and managed within budget parameters.
  • Lead delivery of shop refresh programs, ensuring projects are completed on time and within agreed budget.
  • Develop and manage business cases and deliver 'at-risk' locations and new / re-site projects, meeting timelines, standards and budget requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of planning, licensing legislation and local authority consultations, supporting licence and development teams.
  • Promote licensing awareness across the estate.
  • Support service reviews with key third-party suppliers, monitoring SLAs and handling faults, providing key reporting and trend information.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal teams and key third-party stakeholders, ensuring policy documentation is maintained, accurate and up-to-date.
  • Implement and maintain effective controls, governance and monitoring processes to drive regulatory and operational performance standards across the retail estate.
  • Provide leadership during incidents and escalations, ensuring issues are managed effectively and resolved within agreed service levels.
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the organisation, ensuring clear and consistent communication at all levels.
  • Provide regular reporting, operational data and performance insight to the wider business to support decision-making, continuous improvement and forward-looking operational planning.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and working knowledge of current statutory compliance regulations, asbestos, electrical testing, HVAC, fire safety, signage, pest control and lifts.
  • Knowledge of Legionella L8 compliance regulations and the Equality Act 2010.
  • Technical knowledge of construction materials and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the Gambling Act 2005 and LCCP requirements.
  • Strategic thinker, able to create and communicate a clear vision for the future.
