We are evoke, one of the world’s leading betting and gaming companies. The Group owns and operates internationally renowned brands including William Hill, 888, and Mr Green. We’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (or SRE). Site Reliability Engineering takes on a number of meanings but at evoke it is best defined by our fundamental goal, which is to ensure all systems are as performant and reliable as possible in order to provide a great customer experience across our betting and gaming platforms.
We do this through expert use of observability and automation, working with multiple development teams so they are productive in delivering services in a secure and efficient way and ensuring a highly scalable platform complemented by key relationships with our business and commercial teams to help predict load patterns. We also recognise that every outage is a learning opportunity and work on all aspects of the incident lifecycle.
The team consists of highly skilled engineers and there are three main pillars of activity for the team:
- Operational – Incident command, postmortems, observability
- Pro-active – Performance testing, operational readiness, scaling
- Engineering – Automation, resilience, fault-tolerance
Please note – this role will require some Saturday working, approximately 1 out of five on a rota basis.
What you will be doing:
- Focusing on automating and improving operations to help guarantee system reliability, performance and supportability with a key emphasis on bridging the gap between commercial, operational and technical teams.
- Fostering a strong customer focus by proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks and incidents.
- Driving innovation by exploring new technologies and helping to implement robust, scalable, and resilient solutions.
- Conducting postmortem investigations by performing a deep-dive into complex technical concepts but then be able to communicate this effectively to business stakeholders and a non‑technical audience.
- Championing SRE best practices and processes and work to ensure these are maintained by working closely with various teams throughout the organisation.
- Putting the customer experience at the forefront of anything you do.
Who we are looking for:
- Good, broad knowledge of Cloud computing concepts with an understanding of how to troubleshoot and analyse distributed systems and deep dive into containerised platforms.
- Understanding of the concepts of resilience, fault-tolerance, scalability and performance within a Tech platform, ideally with hands-on experience of this.
- Clear and effective communication skills whilst being able to influence decisions based on data.
- Ability to draw contextual data from a number of sources and skilfully troubleshoot using Observability tooling such as Splunk, New Relic, Cloudwatch etc.
What we offer:
- Family support – industry‑leading maternity and paternity leave and paid time off if you have caring responsibilities.
- Perks and discounts – discounts at a range of high‑street retailers.
- Financial compensation, pension and bonus schemes.
- Health & wellbeing – tools and services to help support your well‑being, including support with mental health and financial education; you will also have access to gym discounts and our cycle‑to‑work scheme.
- Hybrid working – our employees can work from home up to 80% of the time with 20% of office time built in to ensure we get some face‑to‑face collaborative team time – and the chance for a coffee and a catch‑up.
At evoke, we prioritise diversity, equity, and inclusion for the benefit of our company, employees, and communities. We foster a welcoming and safe workplace that values all forms of diversity and provides opportunities for growth.
