A rapidly growing pump hire company is looking for a Mechanical / Diesel Engineer to join their team. The company provides high-performance diesel and electric pump sets and solutions for both temporary and permanent pumping applications across the UK. Known for robust construction and excellent customer service, they are recognized as a leading supplier in the industry.
The role involves depot-based and field work maintaining diesel engines and pump equipment for large water pumping applications. Training can be provided, but experience with engines from Caterpillar Inc., Perkins Engines Company Limited, Volvo Group, or JCB is preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose faults and undertake repairs on diesel-driven pump equipment
- Perform mechanical and electrical fault finding and maintenance
- Maintain pump fleets to ensure high reliability and minimal downtime
- Carry out field service and depot-based engineering tasks
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Prepare and follow risk assessments and method statements
- Plan and coordinate maintenance activities efficiently
- Liaise with customers and provide technical support
- Assist with spare parts ordering and inventory management
- Support maintenance planning and respond to project enquiries
- Participate in a callout rota for emergency engineering support
- Check drawings, designs, materials, and equipment against project specifications
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (HNC, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
- Experience working with large diesel engines, preferably OEM trained
- Strong mechanical expertise with electrical fault-finding knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering team
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Customer-focused approach with a commitment to reliability and quality
- Salary review after 6 months
