Groupage Operator Location: Tamworth Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 Department: Road Freight Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 DOE We are currently recruiting for an experienced Groupage Operator to join a busy European road freight operation based in Tamworth. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, proactive transport professional with experience in European road freight who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service. The Role As a Groupage Operator, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day movement of European import and export groupage shipments, ensuring freight is planned efficiently, trailers are utilised effectively, and customers receive a high level of service. You will work closely with customers, sales teams, warehouse colleagues, transport partners and European suppliers to ensure shipments move efficiently from collection through to final delivery. Key Responsibilities Manage the end-to-end operation of European import and export groupage shipments. Plan and control linehaul movements, ensuring shipments are placed on the first suitable departure. Maximise trailer capacity through effective load planning and consolidation. Liaise with warehouse teams to coordinate the accurate and timely loading and unloading of international trailers. Manage transport partners and suppliers to ensure collections and deliveries are completed on time. Monitor shipments and proactively identify and resolve delays or transit issues. Provide accurate and timely updates to customers, suppliers and internal teams Prepare and manage transport and customs documentation, including CMRs, manifests, transit documents and customs declarations. Ensure all shipment documentation is accurately completed and uploaded to internal systems. Accurately cost and charge shipments within required timescales. Ensure additional costs are identified and recovered where appropriate. Review supplier invoices and monitor shipments for potential financial losses. Work collaboratively with Sales, Warehouse and Operations teams to maintain excellent customer service. Ensure all movements comply with relevant transport, customs, environmental, company and health & safety requirements. Undertake additional duties and projects as required by management. About You We are looking for an experienced transport professional who is confident working in a busy European road freight environment. Essential: At least 2 years' experience within European transport operations. Strong knowledge of domestic and/or European road freight. A good understanding of European transit times and transport planning. Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS). Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities. The ability to prioritise effectively and identify operational showstoppers. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. The ability to visualise and optimise load combinations. A proactive approach and a genuine commitment to customer service. The confidence to make quick decisions while protecting customer requirements and operational efficiency. The ability to build positive working relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues. Desirable A second European language such as German, Polish or French.A full UK driving licence
