Here at evoke plc, we’re looking for two senior lawyers to join the legal team (based in London or Leeds) for two maternity cover roles. One role is a commercial legal role, and the other role is a blended commercial, employment and generalist role. One of the many great things about working for evoke is that no two days are the same. You’ll be reporting directly to the Commercial Legal Director and there are endless opportunities to work on a variety of matters, forge new relationships and drive efficiencies. We are looking for a team player who thrives on variety and responsibility; a person who has the skills to make a positive contribution to the evoke businesses as part of a collaborative and supportive team for the duration of the maternity cover.
Responsibilities
- Mentoring and supporting other members of the Commercial Legal team and being a point of escalation or assistance for junior members of the team.
- Assisting on strategic initiatives for the business, including providing legal support for Group projects across different markets or business areas.
- Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts, including agreements for the supply of services and/or goods, sponsorship, marketing, filming production, media buying, IT (including software licensing and AI development), data and content supply and other commercial partnership agreements.
- Working with the marketing compliance team to ensure compliance with ASA guidance and codes, including reviewing and advising on marketing promotions and advertisements, scripts and legal lines.
- Advising on legal risks, including IP infringement risks and disputes and liaising with external counsel as required.
- Providing legal advice in respect of consumer and data protection regulation to relevant stakeholders.
- Working closely with related Group functions across multiple territories where necessary, including the Data Protection, Compliance, Company Secretarial and Tax teams.
- Providing legal training to parts of the business where appropriate and assisting with the development and maintenance of the team’s precedents and standard forms.
Blended commercial, employment and generalist role responsibilities
- Providing practical legal support on employment matters across the business, including coordinating with local external counsel on jurisdiction‑specific employment issues and helping ensure a consistent, commercially pragmatic approach to people‑related legal matters.
- Support the HR team on employment law matters, acting as an escalation point for complex issues.
- Providing legal support across a broad range of commercial matters, including business initiatives, cross‑functional projects, and general day‑to‑day legal advisory work.
Qualifications
- 5‑7+ years PQE, with experience within a law firm and an excellent academic and legal background.
- Excellent attention to detail, a collaborative team player with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues across the business.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to convey complex legal issues in a concise, commercially orientated manner to business colleagues.
- Flexibility in approach and a willingness to take on a varied workload for different stakeholders across the business.
- A betting/gaming background is preferred (but not essential).
Benefits
- Family Support – Industry‑leading maternity and paternity leave and paid time off if you have caring responsibilities.
- Perks and discounts – Discounts at a range of high‑street retailers.
- Financial compensation, pension, and bonus schemes.
- Health & wellbeing – Tools and services to help support your well‑being, including support with mental health and financial education, gym discounts and our cycle to work scheme.
- Hybrid working – Employees can work from home up to 3 days with 2 days office time built in to ensure we get some face‑to‑face collaborative team time and the chance for a coffee and a catch‑up.
