Are you a seasoned Mechanical Engineer with experience in armoured vehicle systems and mobility solutions? Our client, a leading defence contractor, is seeking a SC cleared Operations, Deploy & Mobility Engineer to join their dynamic team in Bristol, with the flexibility of hybrid working. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge land systems and armoured vehicle programmes.

Role Overview

As a key technical expert, you will report to the AJAX Engineering Lead, working closely with demonstration and in-service teams. You will be responsible for ensuring the operational environment, deployment logistics, and mobility systems of AJAX vehicles meet rigorous safety and performance standards. Your expertise will support the resolution of domain-specific issues, trials, and in-service solutions, contributing to the programme's ongoing success until at least March 2027, with potential to extend.

Location & Working Arrangements

  • Location: Bristol (3 days per week onsite) with occasional visits to Merthyr Tydfil supplier site
  • Remote Working: Hybrid model, up to 1 day remote working per week
  • Working hours: 7.5-hour days

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical advice and oversight across three core domains: Operational Environment (habitat, environmental control, collective protection), Deployment (rail, sea, air transportation logistics), and Mobility (suspension, running gear, tracks)
  • Collaborate with prime contractors, safety teams, and in-service representatives to resolve domain-related issues
  • Contribute to trials activities and site visits as required
  • Support the management of in-service solutions and ongoing domain assurance plans

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Registered as CEng, IEng, RSci, or IMarEng
  • Experience within a manufacturing and production setting
  • Extensive technical advice and successful delivery of Mechanical or Mechatronic outcomes
  • Strong familiarity with armoured/land systems, ideally AJAX or similar vehicles
  • Relevant engineering qualifications and training

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience working within AJAX programmes
  • Knowledge of land systems, armoured vehicles, suspension, and mobility systems
  • Experience supporting trials and verification activities

Contract Details

This is a contract opportunity running until 31 March 2027, with scope to extend, offering a day rate between £420 and £570 (inside IR35).
