Are you a skilled Lead Software Engineer specialising in Python and Django, looking for an impactful contract opportunity? Evodia Limited is partnering with a prominent client in the government sector to find a talented professional for a 12-month contract role that combines technical leadership with meaningful work.
Location: Flexible - London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff or North East, with the option for hybrid working (2 days onsite per week)
Contract: 12 months, inside IR35
Day Rate: £600 to £750 per day
Security Clearance: SC clearance minimum
In this role, you’ll take the lead on designing, developing, and delivering high-quality, resilient software solutions within a secure, government-aligned environment. Your expertise in full-system design will be vital in translating user needs into scalable, secure, and tested applications, ensuring they meet strict compliance standards for controlled goods and exports.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the end-to-end design and delivery of scalable software solutions, primarily using Python and Django
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Business Analysts, UCD specialists, and developers to define technical outcomes
- Build and support secure, high-performance, test-driven code
- Maintain and optimise live services, supporting stability and performance
- Drive continuous system improvement and ensure smooth integration across complex platforms
- Oversee multiple workstreams within an agile delivery environment
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- At least 5+ years’ experience, preferably 8-10 years, with strong Python and Django expertise
- Proven ability in system design from concept to deployment
- Experience working within secure, structured, or regulated environments
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative approach
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and multidisciplinary team working
Desirable:
- Experience aligned with GDS standards
- Background in public sector or defence domains
- Exposure to secure or sensitive environments
