We are partnering with a prominent defence client to find an SC cleared Lead Safety Engineer to support critical land domain projects. If you are a Chartered Engineer with proven experience in Safety Case development, Hazard Log management and tailored application of DEF STAN 00-056, this could be an excellent opportunity for you to make a genuine impact.
The role is based in Bristol, offering a flexible hybrid working arrangement - 2 to 3 days onsite per week with optional remote working. You will be required to visit Bristol for meetings and occasionally travel to Coventry to engage with the supplier, typically on a fortnightly basis. The contract is initially until 30 September 2026, with potential to extend.
Key Responsibilities:- Review and scrutinise the SRO/Accountable Person's Safety Strategy and Project Requirements, including Safety and Project Management Plans.
- Evaluate base vehicle configurations and existing Safety Case Reports, Hazard Logs, and Lifecycle Assessments (LCA).
- Coordinate Hazard Log Working Groups (HLWG) to confirm equipment positions within the Safety Safety Reserve (SSR) and SRO/AP framework.
- Review safety cases for integrated equipment, lead design reviews, and participate in project kick-offs with prime contractors.
- Attend trials representing DE&S, support safety assurance activities, and lead configuration change processes for Defence Technology (DT).
- Prepare and present safety documentation at panels, support Safety Case Report updates, and assist with equipment safety assurance activities.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent, with Membership of a recognised professional safety or engineering institute.
- Extensive hands-on experience with ASEMS and System Safety Management tools & processes.
- Proven track record managing high-risk, high-consequence safety activities within land equipment projects, especially with platforms like AJAX, SCOUT, WARRIOR, or similar.
- Strong background in writing safety cases, chairing safety meetings and setting up hazard logs; experience tailoring DEF STAN 00-056.
