This is a fantastic opportunity to guide high-impact hardware development within a secure, innovative environment, with flexible hybrid working arrangements.
Your Next Challenge
As the senior technical authority, you will oversee the entire hardware lifecycle — from detailed electronic architecture design to seamless manufacturing handovers.
Working closely with systems engineering, you’ll champion engineering excellence by defining and refining processes and toolsets for PCB, FPGA, and Mechanical disciplines.
Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering secure digital solutions to support government and defence initiatives globally.
This role balances technical leadership with hands‑on project delivery, with approximately 80% focused on execution and 20% on team mentorship and governance.
You’ll provide guidance on high‑speed digital board design, FPGA integration, and thermal management, ensuring our client’s products meet the highest standards of quality and security.
- What You’ll Do
- Lead and define hardware development processes across PCB, FPGA, and Mechanical disciplines.
- Oversee architectural design, schematic capture, and high‑speed digital PCB layout, focusing on interfaces like PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, and Ser Des.
- Drive validation and verification strategies to guarantee robust hardware performance and security.
- Ensure quality governance through stage‑gated reviews and design metrics across multidisciplinary teams.
- Support new product introductions, resolving technical challenges and ensuring smooth transitions to manufacturing.
- Mentor and develop hardware engineers, fostering a supportive, collaborative culture.
- What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years’ experience in hardware engineering and electronic design within high‑security environments, ideally in defence, aerospace, or military sectors.
- A strong background in defining and implementing processes using state‑of‑the‑art tools for PCB, FPGA, and Mechanical disciplines.
- Proven expertise in high‑speed digital design, including FPGA workflows involving PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, and Ser Des interfaces.
- Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), design for testing (DFT), and thermal management.
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or related field.
- UK SC security clearance, or the willingness and eligibility to obtain SC clearance.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with programmable logic integration in defence or high‑assurance projects.
- Experience designing for manufacturing, particularly within the defence or aerospace sectors.
- A proactive mentor who inspires engineering teams to excel without micromanagement.
Why Join?
This role offers a rewarding path for experienced hardware engineers looking to lead high‑profile projects within a respected, secure environment.
The company is large, stable, and committed to ongoing innovation and development.
Salary is negotiable depending on experience, with the possibility of flexible working arrangements.
