Our client, a renowned Defence company based in Bristol, is seeking a capable OWE Lead Engineer, who holds a minimum of SC clearance, to lead the integration and testing of novel systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects within a supportive, professional environment.
What Youll Be Doing
As the One Way Effector (OWE) Lead Engineer, youll report directly to the OBI Lead & Chief Engineer. Your main focus will be overseeing the engineering management plan for Urgent OWE capabilities, with a specific emphasis on aviation aspects. Youll be responsible for:
- Formulating technical requirements and managing test, validation, and evaluation processes.
- Setting out the engineering roadmap for future development phases.
- Ensuring technical data supplied by partners meet quality and safety standards.
- Providing expert advice on safety, integration, and regulatory compliance, working closely with stakeholders such as airworthiness authorities and senior project leads.
- Managing hazards and contributing to the development of safety artefacts necessary for testing.
This role involves a mix of onsite presence in Bristol (2 days per week), alongside remote working, with potential UK and overseas travel.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in engineering management, preferably within complex weapons systems development and testing. Specific experience should include:
- Management of development and integration of novel military systems.
- Hands-on experience with weapons testing programmes and aviation regulation compliance.
- Proven ability to oversee Test, Trials, and Experimentation activities.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating with regulators or airworthiness authorities.
- Desirable qualities include developing innovative delivery approaches, supplier management through production phases, and experience with equipment demonstrations.
What We Offer
This is a contract position running initially until 31 March 2026, with scope for long-term extension. The role offers a competitive day rate of up to £570 per day (inside IR35). Youll be part of a dynamic team working on high-impact projects, with full support from our expert recruitment team.
