EVOC is a charity (est. 1868) that helps voluntary organisations in Edinburgh by delivering advocacy, capacity building and collaboration. The Finance Director will be a trustee alongside 10 others with a rich diversity of professional skills. Our turnover is c. £2 m and we have 12 employees. This role will provide scrutiny and oversight of financial processes and will make a difference to the long-term sustainability of the charity.

We have recently moved from Sage to Xero so remote working on the cloud-based platform is normal. We need to review our financial procedures and systems to ensure we are making the most of their capabilities. EVOC experienced a significant event in 2024 and has since recovered, appointed new leadership, reduced headcount by over 50% and relocated to new premises. We are now focusing on growth and are keen to hear from people with entrepreneurial skills.

What are we looking for?

  • Experienced accountant with business or charity experience, preferably familiar with an SME of turnover c. £2 m.
  • Deep understanding of the risks and opportunities for a limited company and charity of this size.
  • Strategic mindset – design reporting structures to provide the board with clear, priority-focused finance reports.
  • Experience of using Xero is desirable but not essential.
  • Hybrid working model acceptable.

What will you be doing?

  • Work with the CEO, Book Keeper, Accountant and Auditor to manage resources effectively and maintain high standards of accountability and integrity.
  • Chair the Finance Committee and participate in other board committees.
  • Provide internal and sector-wide training on finance matters.
  • Lead short- and long-term financial strategy, support budgeting processes, and deliver financial reporting to the board, members and funders.
  • Ensure compliance with Company and OSCR requirements and support the tendering process for appointment of a financial auditor.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to review banking and investment arrangements.
