About Evo
We are an award-winning digital agency based in Somerset, working with a mix of ecommerce, automotive and specialist brands. For over 18 years, we have specialised in creating bespoke solutions that transform businesses.
Over the past couple of years we have shifted from traditional web builds into a more product-led, performance-driven model. That means better platforms, deeper client relationships, and more responsibility on the development team to deliver work that actually moves the needle.
Joining us means you will be part of a dynamic team of like-minded developers who share a passion for innovation and quality. It is the perfect place to grow your skills, collaborate on exciting projects, and make a real impact. You are not a cog in a machine. You will have a direct impact on what we build, how we build it, and how we improve over time.
The Role
We are looking for a developer who sits slightly on the senior side of midweight. This isn’t a role for someone early in their career. We need someone who can get up to speed quickly and contribute from the outset.
You will be working across a mix of:
- High-traffic Ecommerce platforms with real scale and complexity
- Elegant brochure websites
- Ongoing development and optimisation work for retained clients
- Bespoke builds using our internal platform and Laravel
A big part of the role is being comfortable stepping into existing codebases, understanding how things work, and moving them forward without needing everything rebuilt from scratch.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of modern web development technologies and best practices, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable, and user-centric web solutions. You will collaborate closely with designers, project managers, and other developers throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and wireframing through to deployment and ongoing maintenance. URL examples with your application are hugely beneficial.
How We Work
Most of our work is built on:
- Laravel (and Livewire)
- A custom platform we have developed and continue to evolve
- Modern frontend approaches alongside some legacy elements you will need to navigate
We are pragmatic. We do not chase trends for the sake of it, but we do expect people to care about doing things properly and improving how we work over time.
What You Will Be Doing
Building and maintaining websites and ecommerce platforms
Working across both new builds and ongoing client updates
Picking up and improving existing codebases
Collaborating with the team to deliver projects properly, not just quickly
Contributing to how we evolve our platform and development practices
What We Are Looking For
Experience in web development
Strong Laravel experience (or very close equivalent)
Comfortable working across multiple projects and priorities
Able to get to grips with existing systems quickly
Solid understanding of frontend fundamentals (JS, CSS, templating)
Experience in an agency or fast-paced environment is helpful but not essential
Someone who takes ownership and does not need constant direction
Key Technologies
HTML
PHP (8.x)
Laravel and Livewire
MySQL
Javascript ES5/6+, including jQuery and Alpine JS
Tailwind and/or SCSS/CSS
Version control via Git

REST based APIs
Desirable but Not Essential
Github CI/CD
React/NextJS
Typescript
Figma
Google Analytics (4) tracking experience
Working Setup
Hybrid role - typically 2 days per week in Taunton
Flexible where needed, but we do value time together as a team
Benefits
25 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 30)
Health and wellbeing support
