Commercial Electrical Engineer

Commercial Electrical Engineer

Full-Time No working from home possible
EVlution Point

Delteq and EVlution Point are looking for an experienced and versatile Commercial & EV Electrical Engineer to work across both businesses within our group.

This is a varied position combining general commercial electrical work for Delteq with electric vehicle charging installations, site surveys and electrical design for EVlution Point.

This appointment represents the beginning of a new in-house electrical department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help establish the department's working practices, technical standards and service capabilities.

Initially, this will be a hands-on engineering role. However, as the department grows, there will be a genuine opportunity for the right person to progress into an Electrical Manager or Head of Electrical position, with responsibility for managing engineers and subcontractors and overseeing electrical project delivery across both businesses.

We are therefore looking for someone who is technically capable, commercially aware and comfortable working independently, but who also has the ambition and leadership potential to manage and develop an electrical department in the future.

Please note that this is a hybrid role in terms of working across Delteq and EVlution Point and should not be confused with hybrid home working. Regular travel to customer sites will be required.

Key responsibilities

Commercial electrical work – Delteq

  • Carry out commercial electrical installations, alterations and upgrades.
  • Undertake electrical fault-finding, repairs and planned maintenance.
  • Install containment, cabling, distribution equipment and associated electrical systems.

  • Assist with planning labour, materials and project requirements.
  • Support the development of Delteq's in-house electrical capabilities.

  • Conduct detailed EV charging site surveys.
  • Assess existing electrical infrastructure, supply capacity and distribution arrangements.
  • Record cable routes, distances, ground conditions, parking layouts and installation requirements.
  • Identify requirements for civils, containment, earthing, protection, communications and load management.
  • Produce clear survey reports, technical recommendations and accurate information for quotations.
  • Complete cable calculations, voltage-drop assessments and protective-device selections.
  • Prepare single-line diagrams, cable schedules, layouts and other design documentation.
  • Support DNO applications, load assessments and new electrical connection requirements.
  • Work with charger manufacturers and charge-point management system providers during commissioning.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults affecting chargers, communications and supporting electrical infrastructure.
  • Complete testing, certification and project handover documentation.
  • Provide technical support to project managers, estimators and the commercial team.
  • Support maintenance visits and planned preventative maintenance programmes.

Department development and future management

As one of the first appointments within the new electrical department, the successful candidate will help shape how the department develops.

This may include:

  • Helping to establish technical standards, procedures and quality-control processes.
  • Supporting the development of safe systems of work and electrical compliance procedures.
  • Advising on tools, equipment, vehicles and training requirements.
  • Helping to assess and select electrical subcontractors.
  • Supporting the future recruitment and training of electricians and apprentices.
  • Reviewing electrical designs, surveys, test results and certification.
  • Monitoring the quality and consistency of electrical work.
  • Helping to plan labour and resources across multiple projects.
  • Progressing towards responsibility for the performance and management of the electrical department.

The position is intended to provide a clear potential progression route into an Electrical Manager or Head of Electrical role as the department expands. Progression will be based on performance, capability and the growth requirements of the businesses.
