Eville and Jones are seeking Official Veterinarians (OV) who want to start a career in the UK! If you have a degree in veterinary sciences, an advanced English level and are looking to work within animal welfare and UK food safety, we would love to hear from you! Working in abattoirs located across the UK, as an OV you will perform a varied role including some duties listed as below: Assessment of food chain information. Conducting ante-mortem inspection of animals for slaughter. Verification of animal welfare compliance. Conducting post-mortem inspection and health marking. Verification of slaughter hygiene standards, FBO traceability systems and food safety management systems. Assessment of and decision making in relation to food chain information, live animals, animal welfare and meat. Verify that the FBO complies with legislative requirements through their own food safety management procedures. As an Official Veterinarian you will be responsible for the technical leadership and performance of the plant inspection team by, providing appropriate advice, coaching, support, and ensuring technical compliance through supervision of tasks. You’ll need to establish and maintain productive working relationships with the plant FBOs and other stakeholders (other Government Departments, Local Authorities, etc). This means someone who is an effective and confident communicator, able to build good working relationships and sort out issues as they arise. You’ll need to be able to write up detailed reports and understand legislative issues so that you can make effective decisions when required. Difficult situations will arise occasionally as part of the job and you’ll need to be the sort of person with the necessary diplomatic and communication skills to sort these out. You will need:- A Veterinary degree (BSc) from an accredited University Previous experience in meat hygiene or animal welfare is desirable, but not mandatory To have strong communication in English – ideally IELTS level 7, or OET B Leadership skills, and attention to detail Be a reliable team player with flexibility To have a valid driving license What we can Offer: – Excellent starting salary with enhancement opportunities – Full training and OV course with Bristol University – Initial temporary paid accommodation for the induction – A company car – Company laptop and phone – A dedicated onboarding partner to support your journey to the UK -Full cover of visa sponsorship and RCVS fees
