9-month maternity cover – commencing October 2026.

As an Area Manager for E&J (Eville & Jones), you will be responsible for the service delivery within a defined geographical area (Birmingham & Northern Ireland) by providing leadership and management of Lead Official Veterinarians/Technical Managers/Operations Managers to ensure the efficient and consistent delivery of Corporate Objectives and to ensure the delivery of E&J contractual requirements to all customers. As your area will include Northern Ireland, there will be a requirement to travel over to Northern Ireland on occasions.

We are looking for an individual with a ‘can do’ attitude who will roll their sleeves up to support the delivery of services to a variety of customers. Someone that has an eye for process improvement who can take a step back and see where improvements can be made and influence the delivery of those improvements. This role, therefore, requires a strong professional with experience in management. This role would suit somebody with previous experience in Management. The person who will fit with us will be down to earth, resilient, delivery-focused, fast-paced with an ability to work autonomously to drive change forward and balance the ongoing demand for delivery of quality service.

The Area Manager (AM) will oversee operational delivery across their area, ensuring effective people, performance, and financial management. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing staff rotas to meet customer resourcing needs and ensure contractual hours are achieved
  • Leading, supervising, and performance-managing Operations Managers, Team Leader OVs, and Technical Managers
  • Conducting site visits and stakeholder engagement in line with Regional Director requirements
  • Overseeing performance appraisals, enforcement actions, and technical reviews
  • Ensuring strong financial control, monitoring budgets, and delivering efficiency savings
  • Driving health & safety compliance, risk assessments, and accident investigations
  • Ensuring adherence to company quality systems and standards
  • Maintaining strong relationships with Food Standard Agency, Food Business Operators, local authorities, and other stakeholders
  • Supporting contract management, reporting, and customer service reviews
  • Providing regular written reports to the Regional Director and facilitating team meetings and engagement activities

Candidates Should Have:

  • Demonstrated experience in management and process enhancement
  • A degree in Veterinary Medicine and MRCVS status - desirable
  • Experience as an FSA Official Veterinarian and/or Export Official Veterinarian
  • Strong communication abilities
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Resilience and persistence in overcoming challenges
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and goal-oriented
  • A strong drive to achieve and deliver outstanding results
  • Proficient negotiation skills
  • Competency in computer skills and familiarity with office software packages
