The Finance & Tax Operations team plays a critical role in safeguarding the organisation's financial integrity and ensuring we meet all statutory, regulatory, and shareholder expectations. This function ensures high quality financial reporting, effective risk management, and compliance across complex finance and tax environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial & Risk Management: Act as a key control point for Finance risks, including those linked to market trading within pension funds. Ensure the organisation's asset and liability positions are accurately reported and effectively monitored. Maintain robust financial controls and high-quality record-keeping that support statutory, regulatory, and legislative reporting.
- Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Oversee policyholder tax reporting and ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support tax compliance and reporting activities.
- Operational Excellence: Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing clear direction and fostering a positive, adaptable culture. Drive delivery of project-related work, contributing to continuous improvement across Finance and Tax operations. Oversee general ledger accuracy, banking processes, and back-office practices to ensure operational efficiency.
Skills we can't do without:
- This role is suited to a seasoned professional with strong policyholder (operational) tax expertise within financial services, life & pensions, or investment products, who can provide technical leadership, assurance, and guidance across the business.
- Studying towards, or holding, a professional tax qualification (ATT, CTA, or equivalent).
- Experience supporting audits, regulatory reviews, or internal assurance activities.
- Strong technical experience in policyholder (operational) tax within life insurance, pensions, or investment products.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply tax legislation and HMRC guidance in a practical, operational environment.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review complex data and identify issues and trends.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on control, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated experience managing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and working with minimal supervision.
- Confident communicator with the ability to explain technical tax matters clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working cross-functionally within large organisations.
- Advanced experience analysing and reviewing large volumes of data.
- Solid understanding of pension products, bond investments, and their associated tax treatments.
- Experience within the Life & Pensions industry is essential.
Educational Background and Qualifications:
- Desirable: ACCA or CIMA qualification (or progression toward qualification).

Essential Criteria: Candidates must be based in Edinburgh. They must be willing to travel with a maximum of 2 days per week in the Edinburgh office. The successful candidate should hold or be capable of obtaining BPSS clearance.
