Job Type: Part-Time (up to 22.5 hours per week, mostly weekend and evening work)

We’re excited to be opening a brand-new Children and Young People’s Safe Haven in Newcastle and Gateshead City Centres in January 2026, a warm, welcoming space where young people can get immediate support during times of mental health distress. This innovative service is a partnership between Everyturn Mental Health-Streetwise, and Children North East, and we’re looking for a passionate Senior Mental Health Support Worker to help co-ordinate and deliver this service.

What You'll Do

  • Provide safe, welcoming, and effective support to young people both in-person and online.
  • Work 1:1 to develop skills, confidence, and mental health knowledge, co-producing safety plans and offering guidance/signposting.
  • Liaise with external services, parents, and carers, keeping up-to-date with referral pathways.
  • Support the Team Lead with project coordination, including rotas, reporting, and peer supervision.
  • Provide guidance to the wider delivery team in day-to-day service delivery.
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and feedback collection.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with Everyturn/CNE policies.
  • Promote equality, accessibility, and a safe, welcoming environment for all young people.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children/young people experiencing mental health difficulties, including SEND or neurodivergence.
  • Relevant qualification (minimum diploma level) in work with children and young people.
  • Experience working in a team and contributing to peer supervision.
  • Knowledge of young people’s mental health, therapeutic interventions, and referral pathways.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower young people, assessing their needs effectively.
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures; training provided.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage workload, and thrive in a challenging environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

Desirable

  • Youthwork, early years, or family work-related qualification (level 2 or above).
  • Experience working with underserved communities, e.g., looked-after children, LGBTQ+ young people, or minoritised groups.
