1. Role and Scope of Position:
This position supports the Eversource Gas Energy Lab serving both Connecticut and Massachusetts. Individual is responsible for performing material failure investigations and identifying new tools, materials, and technologies that can aid the Company in performing work safely and more efficiently. This is for the purpose of determining the causes and contributing factor(s) of the failure or incident and minimizing the possibility of recurrence. Aids in the development of construction material and equipment standards. This position will be interacting and engaging with multiple levels of personnel from field supervision to leadership team members. Contributes to the development of lessons learned from post-failure or incident reviews. Works in support of qualifying new tools/materials for use.
Essential Functions:
- Individual receives, cleans, inspects, tests, and analyzes new tools/materials and equipment failures.
- Uses reasoning to perform analysis related to laboratory and field testing.
- Performs equipment calibrations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Maintains paperwork and other electronic records for materials and equipment.
- Maintains a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Responsible for the evaluation, specification, procurement, installation, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Provides as needed support during incident investigation and incident analysis.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Lead Engineer.
- Solves complex technical problems requiring recognized expertise regarding structural/material analysis and equipment qualification.
- Responsible for conducting destructive and non-destructive examinations of tools, materials, failure analysis, testing and simulations.
- Contributes to the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
- Accountable for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Responsible for preparing and issuing reports documenting studies performed, including results, lessons learned and recommendations.
- Maintains knowledge of industry best practices, trends, industry-related regulatory and legislative changes impacting Compliance and Risk Management.
- Communicates in writing and verbally in a clear, effective and timely manner.
- Will be assigned an ERP role and will support Gas or Electric during any ERP or Work Continuation event as required.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Ability to provide both strategic insight and perform detail-based analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with employees, contractors, customers, municipal officials, business organizations, environmental groups, and community-based organizations.
- Understanding of Federal and state (CT and MA) compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Must be extremely proficient in all MS Office functions, and able to swiftly adapt to current software tools such as Power Bi and Power Automate.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-managed and apply skills in problem solving and decision making.
- Ability to gain trust quickly and to maintain confidentiality and credibility with clients and partners at all levels within the organization.
- Familiarity with gas construction and operation equipment.
- Objective mindset and fundamental gas materials and process knowledge.
- Ability to effectively manage and analyze technical data/records.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Metallurgy, Materials Science, Laboratory Science, Process Safety) required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience :
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in gas distribution, utility or technical experience. Previous failure analysis, testing, quality control, and risk management experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards or a technical background a plus.

Working Conditions:
- This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs. It also includes field visits which may include construction sites, rough terrain and production facilities. Job requires traveling to other operating districts and companies within and outside of the state.
