Construction & Engineering Disputes Team
The Construction & Engineering disputes team sits within the Litigation practice and works alongside our transactional colleagues. We are acknowledged experts in large‑scale projects and dispute avoidance and management, using our experience and commercial expertise to ensure deals are delivered on time and problems are resolved in a straightforward manner.
We predominantly act for the higher end of the supply chain—governments, public bodies, major multinational, national and international corporations, and contractors. The matters we handle are not “business as usual”; they are highly significant, valuable, and complex. Role and Key Responsibilities
- Act for a wide range of national and international clients, focusing on Energy and Infrastructure sectors as well as the traditional built environment.
- Provide strategic and commercial legal advice on major energy, infrastructure and development projects, and on the avoidance/resolution of disputes arising on such projects.
- Handle your own matters, manage teams, and develop, support, and guide junior lawyers within the team.
- Take a proactive lead in business development and contribute to the strategic direction of the team.
- Work with colleagues across the national/international team and wider practice and product groups to help develop growth areas.
Skills and Experience
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 6 years' post‑qualification experience.
- Significant experience of dealing with contentious construction matters.
- Excellent technical skills gained through working on a broad range of construction and engineering projects and disputes, with the ability to:
- Interpret and apply construction and engineering contracts with practical and beneficial effect.
- Understand complex legal arguments and subtle interpretation differences and explain the law clearly and concisely.
- Devise strategies for the avoidance/resolution of disputes arising on construction and engineering projects, taking into account the client’s overall strategy.
- Effectively and strategically guide unavoidable disputes through a variety of dispute resolution procedures.
