Responsibilities

  • This position is for a Senior Commercial Accounting Analyst (Junior Finance Business Partner) for Retainers, providing support to the Senior Finance Manager (SFM) within the commercial finance function.
  • The primary purpose of this role is to assist the Senior Finance Manager and the Partnership in analysing and reviewing performance across key clients within the Connect Group. You will proactively deliver real-time support to Partners and the leadership team, aiming to become a trusted advisor. The role involves supporting business decision-making, driving improvements in KPIs and profitability, and contributing to the delivery of strategic initiatives alongside the SFM and the wider practice.
  • This role provides the opportunity to proactively identify and implement process improvements, driving efficiency and delivering benefits such as optimised operations, cost savings, and increased productivity across the team.
  • You will collaborate closely with other members of the Connect Group. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines are essential.
  • As part of the Commercial Finance team of around 20 employees you will be responsible for, but not limited to: monthly end process including ensuring accounting entries are correct, creating journals, producing monthly reporting packs, P&L reviews and variance analysis; acting as primary point of contact for finance-related queries; writing commentary for business performance reports; hosting regular Partner meetings for Performance Reviews; analytical support for Finance Managers and business stakeholders; budgeting, planning and forecasting; delivering daily financial updates to stakeholders; ensuring quality control and best practice with the wider team; timely query management; collaboration with Connect Group; managing stakeholder expectations; supporting the SFM and Firm on various projects; alignment with Financial Control function.

Skills and experience

  • Part-qualified or newly qualified accountant with financial control experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders at all levels.
  • Familiarity with building and delivering PowerPoint presentations.
  • Experience presenting information to senior stakeholders concisely and clearly.
  • Proven client-facing and organisational skills in a professional environment.
  • Strong analytical ability with large volumes of financial data and strong Excel skills.
  • Ambitious, client-focused and capable of delivering good service in a busy, deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of cube-based reporting systems is beneficial; XLCubed is used at the firm, and Power BI experience is advantageous but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple ad-hoc information requests within tight timescales.
  • Reliable, proactive, with a willingness to learn and take ownership; able to think ahead and be proactive.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; team player; high accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage stakeholder expectations; collaborative style across Finance and the business.
