We are Eversheds Sutherland, a global law firm, with more than 5,000 people across over 30 countries. We’re full-service with deep niche and sector experience. Whatever challenge, wherever in the world, we’re equipped and ready to meet it. We live our values, we’re purposeful and purpose-led. So although the world is fast-moving and rapidly changing, we see it as a place where everyone can thrive. We’re ambitious for our clients, our communities – and for you. Whether you’re starting out on your career or well established, whether you’re a lawyer or in business services. If you’re looking for what’s next, we are too.

What to expect

With us, you grow your global mindset. You’re encouraged to put ideas into action and there’s always something new and different to get involved in. We see the fast-moving world as a place where we can all thrive and succeed. We’re excited for what’s next, so with us, you can be too.

Our team

Our Financial Services Disputes and Investigations (FSDI) group advises clients in various key areas of work in the financial services sector – including financial services litigation, contentious regulatory work, pensions litigation, and corporate crime and investigations (including fraud, anti-money laundering, financial sanctions, bribery and corruption and other aspects of corporate crime).

The team handles a variety of instructions in relation to the following:

  • disputes ranging from high value, complex, cross-border litigation, through to portfolios of claimant and defendant work for banking clients;
  • corporate crime and investigations; and
  • representing individuals and corporate clients in response to regulatory investigations, enforcement and prosecution (both at first instance and on appeal) – which carry significant reputational and legal risk.

Role and key responsibilities

In this client facing role, you will work as part of a team providing legal advice to clients on defending claims brought against them in relation to allegedly mis-sold motor finance. Initially, you will spend 6 months on secondment with one of our client’s helping them prepare the evidence to support their defence. You may also, as part of the team, have exposure to other aspects of other complex financial services litigation subject to appropriate supervision.

We are looking for a Paralegal to join our Financial Services Dispute and Investigations Team (Core FSDI) in Cardiff. This is a fee earning role managing your own portfolio of cases, and potentially assisting other team members, acting for financial institutions as the claimant and defendant.

Skills and experience

We are looking for:

  • A committed team player demonstrating a proactive “can do” attitude
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively
  • The ability to meet deadlines (a key part of this role)
  • A logical and methodical approach to tasks, with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivation
  • Dedication to delivering excellent client service at all times
  • Ideally, some previous hands-on experience of working as a paralegal/legal assistant within a litigation legal team, although those with paralegal experience in commercial litigation and/or real estate will also be considered.
  • Excellent academics
