Team Overview

The Eversheds Sutherland Business Acceptance team is based in Leeds and works within the Governance and Compliance Team to support the firm in meeting its legal and regulatory obligations. The Business Acceptance Team is divided into two sub-teams, the conflicts team and the client opening team. The conflicts team manages conflicts handling for new clients and new matters and the implementation of information barriers. The client opening team assists the firm to comply with the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds Regulations 2017 by completing due diligence on the firm’s clients.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Conflicts Team
  • Monitor volumes of conflict request submissions
  • Manage resources and liaise with legal teams to agree deadlines where appropriate
  • Manage a group of Team Leaders, Senior Analysts, Analysts and Assistants. Specific duties include:
    • Set targets and monitor performance
    • Organise and lead regular check-ins with team members
    • Record and monitor absences
    • Manage holiday requests and shift patterns to ensure sufficient coverage
  • Perform and manage complex conflict checks within predefined service levels, liaising with Senior Business Acceptance Manager, Senior In-House Counsel and Director of Business Acceptance where appropriate
  • Manage escalations from Team Leaders on complex conflict issues, including those involving US conflict rules
  • Support the Senior Business Acceptance Manager and Senior In-House Counsel to develop and implement a formal training plan for Assistants, Analysts and Senior Analysts
  • Provide ad-hoc training to Assistants/Analysts on team processes and policies
  • Audit individual and team performance and report on the same to the Senior Business Acceptance Manager and Team Leaders
  • Complete periodic reviews of team processes and assist the Senior Business Acceptance Manager with identification, development and implementation of new systems and processes to drive efficiencies and quality
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the network
  • Ensure the team provides an efficient, professional service to the firm in line with defined processes, procedures and service levels
  • Organise and report on departmental projects as required by the Senior Business Acceptance Manager
  • Provide support to the wider Governance and Compliance team

Qualifications

  • Prior conflicts experience within a law firm is essential
  • Strong technical conflicts knowledge and familiarity with the relevant provisions within the SRA Code of Conduct
