Still love being clinical, just not the shift pattern?
What if you could keep using your clinical expertise without nights, weekends or long shifts?
We're recruiting Work Capability Assessment (WCA) Functional Assessors in Swindon. You'll assess how a person's health condition or disability affects their capability for work, then write the report the DWP uses to make Universal Credit and ESA decisions.
Who can apply for WCA?
- Registered Nurses (NMC), Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists (HCPC) with active registration and no conditions or restrictions
- At least 1 year of post-registration adult clinical experience
- Full right to work in the UK (we can't offer sponsorship)
You don't need any previous assessor experience. You'll get 12 weeks of training on full pay.
Paramedic or Pharmacist?
Paramedics and Pharmacists aren't able to carry out WCAs, but you're very welcome to apply for our PIP Assessor roles in Swindon. These start at £40,000 and rise to £42,000 within your first year, with the same Monday to Friday hours and bonus scheme.
If you're a Nurse, OT or Physio, you can choose between WCA and PIP.
What's in it for you?
- £42,000 starting salary, going up to £43,000 after 12 months
- £2,100 one-off bonus once you're signed off after training
- Bonus of up to £1,050 every quarter after that (up to 10% a year)
- Overtime available at time and a half
- Extra pay if you take on file handling, auditing or training delivery
- Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with no nights, weekends or bank holidays
- Hybrid working
- Full-time, or part-time on 3 or 4 days a week (pro rata)
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy more
- Up to 6% pension contribution
- Employee discounts and wellbeing support
- Clear career progression
What will you actually be doing?
- Telephone and face-to-face WCAs
- Reviewing medical evidence and supporting information
- Looking at how health conditions affect function and capability for work
- Using your clinical reasoning and professional judgement
- Writing clear, objective, evidence-based reports for the DWP
There's no hands-on treatment, prescribing or traditional caseload. Instead you'll have time to listen properly, assess and write up your findings.
You'll also need
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- Good IT skills
- Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
Please note we can't consider applications from Nursing Associates, Healthcare Assistants, student nurses or anyone without an active professional registration.
Your clinical career doesn't have to mean shift work. If you'd like a role where your experience still counts but your working week looks very different, I'd love to hear from you.
Also suitable for: WCA Assessor, PIP Assessor, Functional Assessor, Disability Assessor, Nurse Assessor, Clinical Assessor, Health Assessor, Paramedic Assessor, Pharmacist Assessor, Monday-Friday clinical jobs.
