Love your clinical skills but ready for a better work-life balance? Swap the shifts for a regular Monday to Friday and get your evenings and weekends back.
Ready to take your clinical career in a new direction? As a PIP Disability Assessor, you can continue using your clinical expertise, assessment skills and professional judgement without the demands of traditional frontline healthcare or hands-on patient care.
We're recruiting healthcare professionals to carry out Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). You'll assess how health conditions and disabilities affect an individual's daily living and mobility, turning your findings into clear, objective reports that support DWP decision-making.
No previous Functional Assessor experience is required — you'll receive 12 weeks of fully paid training!
About the Role
- Carry out structured assessments face-to-face, by telephone or by video, depending on the assessment requirements.
- Review medical evidence, clinical histories and supporting documentation.
- Assess how physical, mental health and cognitive conditions affect daily living activities and mobility.
- Apply your clinical knowledge, reasoning and professional judgement to the information gathered.
- Produce comprehensive, accurate and evidence-based assessment reports.
- Treat every individual with empathy, professionalism and strict confidentiality.
This is an assessment and report-writing role, not a hands-on clinical position. You'll use your existing skills in a new setting while helping ensure the impact of people's health conditions is properly understood.
Pay and Benefits:
- Salary: £40,000 increasing to £42,000 after 12 months
- Further salary progression following successful approval and completion of relevant training milestones, where applicable.
- 5% one-off approval bonus.
- Up to 10% annual performance bonus, paid quarterly.
- Overtime at time and a half once approved, subject to requirements.
- Optional upskilling opportunities for further salary increases.
- 12 weeks' fully paid training.
- 25 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave.
- 6% employer pension contribution.
- ShareSave scheme.
- Paid volunteering day.
- Health helplines, wellbeing apps and lifestyle discounts.
Hours and Location
- Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
- No nights, weekends or shift work.
- Location: Southampton
The role is site-based during training, with a 50/50 hybrid working arrangement available following successful completion of training, subject to the role's requirements.
To be considered, you'll need:
- Active, full and unrestricted registration with the NMC, HCPC or GPhC.
- Registration as a Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD), Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Paramedic or Pharmacist.
- At least one year of post-registration adult clinical experience.
- Experience and confidence in assessing or supporting adults with a range of health conditions.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Strong analytical skills, clinical reasoning and report-writing ability.
- Confidence using IT systems and working independently.
- Full right to work in the UK.
You’ll be assessing individuals aged 16–65, so relevant clinical experience is essential. Previous Functional Assessor experience is not required, as full training will be provided.
Please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
