Location: Ashford – Hybrid (Remote & Site-Based)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm

The Opportunity: This role is suited to Registered Adult Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Paramedics who want to apply their clinical expertise in a structured, analytical and patient-focused environment. You will conduct adult-only functional assessments across a wide range of physical, neurological and mental health conditions. Using evidence-based frameworks, you will evaluate functional impact, interpret medical information and produce detailed clinical reports that contribute to fair and consistent outcomes. This position allows you to maintain your clinical identity while gaining stability, professional support and improved work–life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete adult functional assessments via telephone, video or face-to-face
- Assess how physical, mental and neurological conditions affect daily living and functional capacity
- Review and interpret medical evidence from multiple sources
- Produce clear, structured, evidence-based clinical reports
- Apply consistent clinical judgement to ensure fair outcomes
- Manage clinical time effectively within a structured assessment framework
- Work autonomously with ongoing support from a multidisciplinary clinical team
Approximately 70% of the role is home-based, with required attendance at the Ashford site for face-to-face assessments.
Clinical Scope & Case Variety: You will work with adults presenting with:
- Musculoskeletal conditions
- Chronic pain and mobility limitations
- Mental health disorders
- Neurological conditions
- Occupational limitations
- Cognitive, sensory and fatigue-related impairments
The role involves no treatment, prescribing or manual handling. Focus is on functional impact, structured assessment, and clinical analysis.
Training & Clinical Development: You will complete a fully paid 7-week training programme, designed to provide the knowledge, confidence and competence required for the Functional Assessor role. Training includes:
- Clinical and classroom-based learning
- Report-writing development
- Pathway-based condition training
- Shadowing, mentoring and supervised assessments
- Regular competency reviews and clinical supervision
- Fully funded CPD and support with annual revalidation
After training, you will have access to a national clinical network, continuous professional learning, and opportunities for progression into senior clinical, training, mentoring or auditing roles.
Who We’re Looking For: Clinicians with at least 12 months’ post-registration experience in adult clinical settings:
- Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN, RNLD – Adult)
- Physiotherapist
- Occupational Therapist
- Paramedic
- Experienced Functional Assessors
Essential Requirements:
- Valid NMC or HCPC registration with no restrictions
- Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and reporting skills
- Confident IT skills and ability to work within structured processes
- Ability to travel to the Barnstaple site when required
