As a WCA Functional Assessor, you'll use the clinical knowledge you've built throughout your career to assess how a person's health conditions or disabilities affect their functional ability and capacity for work. No hands-on care. No shift work. No nights. No weekends. Instead, you'll be using your assessment skills, clinical reasoning, professional judgement and communication skills in a structured Monday–Friday role. What Does a WCA Functional Assessor Actually Do? You'll carry out structured assessments with individuals by telephone, video and face-to-face, exploring how their physical and/or mental health conditions affect their ability to work. What you'll do: Review medical information and clinical evidence Take detailed clinical histories Explore how conditions affect functional ability Use your clinical reasoning to assess the information provided Produce clear, accurate and evidence-based reports Manage your own caseload and workload Communicate professionally and empathetically with each individualThe assessment report provides evidence to support the DWP's decision-making process; you are not responsible for making the final benefit decision.
