Ready to swap clinical shifts for a better working week? If you love being a healthcare professional but want a change from hands-on clinical work, this could be the right move. You'd use the clinical knowledge you've already built in a structured PIP Functional Assessor role, with predictable hours, hybrid working and your evenings and weekends back.
You’ll assess how a person's physical or mental health condition affects their daily living, mobility and independence, then write clear, evidence-based reports that support fair decisions on Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Who can apply?
- Registered Nurses (RGN, RMN or RNLD) with active NMC registration
- Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists or Paramedics with active HCPC registration
- Pharmacists with active GPhC registration
- At least 12 months' post-qualification clinical experience
- Full right to work in the UK
- You must live within 90 minutes of Brighton and be able to work from the assessment centre at least 3 days a week
You don't need any previous assessor experience. Full training is provided.

What will you actually be doing?
- Telephone, video and face-to-face assessments with people living with a range of physical and mental health conditions
- Exploring how their condition affects everyday activities, independence and mobility
- Reviewing clinical evidence and gathering information during the consultation
- Using your professional judgement to write accurate, detailed, evidence-based reports
It's a structured, analytical role where your clinical reasoning, communication and report-writing skills really count.
You’ll also need
- Confidence interpreting clinical information
- Strong written and report-writing skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Training and support
You’ll go through a full, inclusive training programme to help you move confidently into functional assessment, with ongoing clinical oversight, feedback and support once you're in the role.
You’ve already built the clinical knowledge. This is a chance to use it differently, with a working week that gives you more structure and balance.
