Keep the clinical skills. Change the working week. You've built your career around assessing patients, understanding complex health conditions, gathering clinical information and making professional judgements. What if you could keep using all of that experience, but move away from traditional hands-on clinical work.
We're recruiting registered healthcare professionals in Brighton to become PIP Functional Assessors, with full training provided.
You'll start on £45,000, increasing to £46,000 after 6 months and £47,000 after 12 months, while moving into a structured Monday-to-Friday role with hybrid working.
What's waiting for you?
- £45,000 starting salary
- Increase to £46,000 after 6 months
- Increase to £47,000 after 12 months
- Monday to Friday
- Hybrid working
- No traditional shift patterns
- Full training provided
- Ongoing professional development
- Permanent position
So, what does a PIP Functional Assessor actually do?
This isn't a treatment role and you won't be diagnosing patients. Instead, you'll speak with people who are applying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and explore how their health condition or disability affects their everyday life.
Using your existing clinical knowledge, you'll:
- Conduct structured assessments by telephone, video and/or face-to-face
- Discuss physical and mental health conditions and their functional impact
- Ask appropriate questions to gather relevant information
- Review available medical evidence
- Use your clinical judgement to understand the individual's functional ability
- Produce clear, accurate and evidence-based reports
And importantly, you don't decide whether somebody receives PIP.
Your responsibility is to complete a thorough assessment and provide a professional report. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) makes the final decision regarding benefit entitlement.
You're not starting your career again
Moving into Functional Assessment can feel like a big change, but the clinical experience you've already built is exactly what provides the foundation for the role.
Previous Functional Assessor experience isn't required.
You'll receive structured training to help you translate your existing assessment, communication and clinical reasoning skills into this new environment.
It's a career change without throwing away the experience you've spent years developing.
What we’re looking for You’ll need to be a registered:
- Nurse – RGN, RMN or RNLD
- Physiotherapist
- Occupational Therapist
- Paramedic
You'll also need:
- Current NMC or HCPC registration
- A minimum of 1 year's post-registration experience
- Strong clinical assessment skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Confidence using IT and completing clinical documentation
- The ability to communicate sensitively with people experiencing a wide range of physical and mental health conditions
Why make the move?
For many healthcare professionals, the attraction isn't about leaving healthcare behind.
- It's about using their experience differently.
- You'll still assess. You'll still listen. You'll still use your clinical judgement.
- You'll still make sense of complex health information.
But you'll be doing it within a structured, Monday-to-Friday career with hybrid working and a clear salary pathway to £47,000.
If you're an experienced healthcare professional in Brighton and you're ready to explore a different way of using your clinical skills,
