We're recruiting a Health & Safety Officer on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based in Cumbria. This is a hands-on, site-based role with real scope to make an impact β€” joining a team that takes its safety culture seriously and wants someone to help drive it forward. If you're NEBOSH-qualified, confident working in a manufacturing environment, and ready to take ownership of a broad H&S remit, we'd like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety policies and procedures across the site
  • Conducting risk assessments and method statements for operational activities
  • Carrying out regular site inspections and audits, identifying hazards and driving corrective actions
  • Investigating incidents, near misses, and accidents β€” and producing clear reports with recommendations
  • Delivering health and safety inductions and training for new starters and existing employees
  • Maintaining accurate H&S records and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
  • Liaising with external bodies including the HSE where required
  • Supporting management in embedding a positive safety culture across all departments

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent advantageous)
  • Proven experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation
  • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively at all levels β€” from the shop floor to senior management
  • Organised and thorough, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • IOSH membership desirable but not essential
