We're recruiting a Health & Safety Officer on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based in Cumbria. This is a hands-on, site-based role with real scope to make an impact — joining a team that takes its safety culture seriously and wants someone to help drive it forward. If you're NEBOSH-qualified, confident working in a manufacturing environment, and ready to take ownership of a broad H&S remit, we'd like to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety policies and procedures across the site
- Conducting risk assessments and method statements for operational activities
- Carrying out regular site inspections and audits, identifying hazards and driving corrective actions
- Investigating incidents, near misses, and accidents — and producing clear reports with recommendations
- Delivering health and safety inductions and training for new starters and existing employees
- Maintaining accurate H&S records and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
- Liaising with external bodies including the HSE where required
- Supporting management in embedding a positive safety culture across all departments
What We're Looking For
- NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent advantageous)
- Proven experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation
- Confident communicator, able to engage effectively at all levels — from the shop floor to senior management
- Organised and thorough, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- IOSH membership desirable but not essential
