We are recruiting for a Production Manager to join a small, specialist manufacturing business and take a key role in the next stage of its development. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Supervisor, Production Team Leader, Manufacturing Coordinator or Operations professional who is ready to take their next step into management. The business is deliberately looking for someone who is hands-on, ambitious and keen to learn, rather than someone who has only ever managed large-scale manufacturing operations.
Why Join? You'll be joining a profitable specialist business with an established workforce and the opportunity to learn directly from experienced employees during a period of succession. The company offers:
- £40,000 - £45,000 salary
- Discretionary profit share
- Monday to Thursday working week
- Significant autonomy and responsibility
- Excellent opportunity for career progression
- A genuine route into broader Operations/Production Management
- The potential to use the role as a springboard into larger operational leadership positions
This is a small manufacturing environment with a close-knit team and approximately 10 people directly involved in manufacturing. The business is entering an important period of succession, with several experienced members of the team approaching retirement. This creates a fantastic opportunity for someone to join the business, learn directly from highly experienced employees and gradually take ownership of the operation.
You will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the manufacturing business, working closely with the existing team and gradually assuming greater ownership of production and operational activities. Responsibilities are likely to include:
- Managing day-to-day manufacturing operations
- Coordinating and supporting the production team
- Planning and organising production activities
- Working closely with experienced members of the team to gain product and process knowledge
- Taking responsibility for operational performance and efficiency
- Supporting quality processes and standards
- Working alongside logistics and production functions
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working
- Helping develop and maintain a structured approach to production
- Supporting the long-term succession and development of the manufacturing operation
- Providing hands-on leadership within a small manufacturing environment
This role would suit someone who has manufacturing experience and is ready to step up. You will ideally have:
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment
- An understanding of production processes and operational requirements
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills
- The confidence to work with and lead an experienced workforce
- A hands-on and practical approach
- Strong communication skills
- The ambition to develop into a broader operational leadership role
- The willingness to learn from experienced colleagues and take ownership over time
If you're an ambitious manufacturing professional looking for your first real opportunity to take ownership of an operation, this could be an excellent next step.
