This is a rare opportunity to take the helm of a growing, independently owned subcontract presses and value-add manufacturing business at a genuinely exciting inflection point. Having recently secured AS9100 accreditation and made strong inroads into the aerospace and defence sectors, the business is now targeting revenues of £15 million within three years — up from a current turnover of £7 million. With a skilled technical team of 40 and a programme of recent investment in new capabilities already underway, the foundations are in place. What’s needed now is a commercially minded, growth-hungry leader to drive the next chapter.

The Role

As Managing Director, you will take full strategic and operational leadership of the business. Your focus will be firmly on revenue growth, customer development, and market expansion — particularly within aerospace, defence, and adjacent high-value sectors. You will lead a strong management team, oversee day-to-day operations, and act as the face of the business to key customers and partners. This is not a maintenance role. The business has ambition, backing, and momentum. We are looking for someone who will bring pace, commercial instinct, and genuine leadership energy to an already strong platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the commercial growth strategy, targeting £15m turnover within three years
  • Develop and expand the customer base across aerospace, defence, and precision engineering markets
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a team of 40 across operations, engineering, and support functions
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with customers, prospects, and strategic partners
  • Drive continuous improvement across quality, efficiency, and capacity utilisation
  • Maintain and build upon the business’s AS9100 accreditation and quality standards
  • Work collaboratively with the senior team and ownership to shape the company’s future direction

What We’re Looking For

  • A proven senior leader from an engineering or manufacturing background — pressings experience is not essential, but a strong understanding of subcontract or precision manufacturing environments is valued
  • A track record of delivering commercial growth — winning customers, opening markets, and hitting revenue targets
  • Operational credibility — you understand what good manufacturing operations look like and can lead from the front
  • Experience operating within or selling into aerospace, defence, or other regulated sectors is a clear advantage
  • Exceptional relationship-building and customer-facing skills
  • The energy, resilience, and ambition to thrive in a fast-moving, privately owned business
