An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Technical Author to join a leading consultancy, seconded into the Sizewell C nuclear power project (working alongside a major infrastructure partner). This is a permanent position offering genuine long-term career development within a growing business area.
You'll play a key role in producing Basis of Estimate (BoE) documentation, working closely with the estimating team to support the development of Target Outturn Cost (TOC) submissions across the project's many work packages — from individual structures and work streams through to larger packages of work. Alongside BoE writing, you may also support with CVs and other ad hoc documentation as required.
What the Role Involves
- Producing clear, high-quality Basis of Estimate documents
- Working closely with the estimating team to translate technical and commercial detail into well-structured written submissions
- Liaising directly with the client, including confidently pushing back on unrealistic deadlines or challenging approaches when needed
- Informally coordinating the output of a small technical writing team
- Supporting wider ad hoc documentation needs as they arise
What We're Looking For
- Previous technical writing experience is helpful but not essential — transferable experience is welcomed, and full support/training will be given
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
- Confidence liaising with clients and stakeholders, with the resilience to push back professionally when required
- A proactive, adaptable personality — someone comfortable taking ownership rather than requiring close direction
- Client-facing or relationship-management experience is a strong plus
- Prior formal leadership/management experience is not required, though there is genuine scope to grow into a more senior or client-facing lead role over time as the business area expands
Location & Flexibility
- This role is highly flexible and not site-based. You do not need to live near the project site.
- Predominantly home-based, with occasional travel required (roughly one day a week) to a London office
- Good rail/transport links to London are ideal — for example, easy access to a mainline route into London
- Alternatively, proximity to Birmingham would also work well, as the parent company's head office is based there
- Candidates based anywhere in the UK with reasonable access to London or Birmingham will be well placed
This is a permanent position with a consultancy business, with the successful candidate seconded into a long-term, high-profile infrastructure project. There is strong client relationship continuity on this project and excellent scope for progression as the business area develops.
