We’re recruiting for a client we’ve partnered with closely for the last two years and it’s one of those hires where the right person will genuinely shape the next chapter.

Why this role stands out:

  • Major investment already landed; the kit, capability and ambition are real.
  • A leadership team that wants a technical voice at the table (and will back you).
  • A team worth leading: good people, good foundations, and genuine growth ahead.
  • Clear opportunity to grow salary/earnings over time as milestones are delivered (bonus progression).
  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays).

This is a privately owned, high-performing engineering business, offering true end-to-end capability (fabrication in-house finishing/surface treatment). They’ve moved from ~£5m turnover in 2020 to ~£9m in 2025, with ~£11m forecast for 2026 following £1.8m investment in best-in-class shop floor capability including multiple new CNC machines (5-axis, large bed, long-length extrusion, automation) and major finishing upgrades.

This role completes the senior team and brings the technical glue that connects sales, operations, engineering, and quality.

The Opportunity:

You’ll join the leadership team alongside a Sales Manager, Operations Manager, and Supply Chain Manager, taking ownership of the technical function that underpins delivery: production engineering, NPI and the quality/inspection framework that keeps everything running smoothly.

You’ll lead and develop:

  • 3 Production Engineers (plus 3 Apprentices)
  • Senior Quality Engineer
  • Inspector

The business has a strong, loyal team already. What they need now is an experienced technical leader from a CNC/machining environment who can bring clarity, direction and confidence; someone who can challenge appropriately, make decisions, and translate technical reality into commercial outcomes.

What you’ll be responsible for:

Production Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead, coach and organise the production engineering team; provide technical direction and accountability.
  • Bring structure to how parts move from quote to feasibility to process plan to production readiness.

New Product Introduction (NPI):

  • Own the technical side of NPI: manufacturability reviews, routes, tooling/fixture strategy, first-off readiness.
  • Ensure smooth handover into operations and consistent delivery against customer expectations.

Quality Assurance & Inspection:

  • Oversee quality leadership and inspection activity, supporting robust systems, fast containment, and effective root cause activity when issues arise.
  • Ensure quality is engineered in, not inspected in.

Cross-functional delivery:

  • Partner closely with Sales during quoting/estimating/technical feasibility, ensuring viability and margin protection.
  • Sit naturally between operations and supply chain to keep production flowing, priorities clear, and risks managed.

Maintenance oversight (outsourced):

  • Overall accountability for preventive maintenance scheduling (delivery managed via outsource partners; can be delegated internally as it is today).

What we’re looking for:

You’ll likely have:

  • A proven technical background in CNC machining/production engineering (the essential bias for this hire).
  • Leadership experience (or clear readiness to step into a leadership role) able to coach engineers and develop apprentices properly.
  • The credibility to engage confidently with technical specialists and avoid the tail wagging the dog dynamic.
  • Experience supporting quoting/feasibility and translating engineering constraints into commercial decisions.
  • Strong communication and calm decision-making in a fast-moving environment.
  • Big plus: you enjoy building structure, developing people, and being the person who makes things join up across departments.
