MEP Design Engineer - Data Centres – Mid to Principal Level
London/Hybrid | Tier 1 Mission Critical Contractor | Major Project Pipeline
I’m working closely with a Tier 1 contractor that specialises exclusively in mission-critical data centre builds across the UK, Sweden & Finland. They’ve secured multiple new hyperscale and large colocation projects and are now strengthening their in-house design capability with several MEP Design Engineers – from solid mid-level through to principal/technical lead level.
This is very much a role for engineers who already understand the realities of live data centre environments – fast programmes, high technical standards, and zero room for design error.
What you’ll be doing:
- Delivering and coordinating MEP design packages on large-scale data centre builds
- Producing and managing BIM / Revit / 3D models
- Working closely with construction and commissioning teams to ensure designs are buildable
- Technical problem solving around cooling, power, resilience and redundancy
- Design reviews, clash detection and value engineering
- Interfacing directly with consultants, subcontractors and end clients
What they’re looking for:
- 3+ years’ experience specifically on Data Centre mission-critical projects
- Mechanical or Electrical building services design background
- Strong BIM / Revit / 3D coordination experience
- Comfortable working in contractor-led, fast-track environments
- Able to take ownership of packages and coordinate across disciplines
Nice to have / bonus:
- High voltage or MV/HV power infrastructure experience
- Experience with substations, generators, UPS systems or critical power distribution
- Previous Tier 1 contractor or hyperscale exposure
Why this one stands out:
- Proper long-term pipeline (not a one-project hire)
- Real progression into lead/design management roles
- Technically challenging, high-value projects
- Strong salary + package + stability in a booming sector
