About the Opportunity
A leading Tier 1 Contractor is seeking an experienced BIM Lead to manage BIM and digital construction delivery on a major hyperscale data centre project in Blyth, UK.
This BIM Lead position will take ownership of multidisciplinary BIM coordination across MEP, CSA, architectural and specialist subcontractor packages.
The successful candidate will manage BIM delivery from design development and preconstruction through installation, commissioning and digital handover.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Data Centre BIM Lead, BIM Manager or Senior BIM Coordinator to join a leading UK contractor with an established pipeline of hyperscale data centre and mission-critical construction projects.
The position will initially be based in Blyth, Northumberland, with longer-term career opportunities across the contractor's UK project portfolio.
- Key BIM Lead Responsibilities
- BIM Leadership and Digital Construction
- Lead BIM and digital construction delivery across the hyperscale data centre project.
- Develop, implement and maintain the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
- Ensure compliance with ISO 19650, Employer's Information Requirements and client BIM standards.
- Establish and manage the Master Information Delivery Plan (MIDP) and Task Information Delivery Plans (TIDPs).
- Define project modelling standards, naming conventions, information requirements and model-review procedures.
- Act as the primary BIM contact for the client, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams.
- Drive the implementation of consistent BIM workflows across all project disciplines.
- Data Centre BIM Coordination
- Manage federated BIM models covering mechanical, electrical, public health, CSA, architectural and specialist systems.
- Lead regular BIM coordination and clash-detection meetings.
- Undertake detailed model reviews using Autodesk Revit and Navisworks Manage.
- Identify and resolve design clashes, access restrictions and constructability issues.
- Coordinate plantrooms, equipment layouts, electrical rooms, service routes, containment, ductwork, pipework and structural openings.
- Review maintenance access, equipment replacement routes and commissioning requirements.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces between MEP, CSA, architectural and specialist vendor packages.
- Ensure models achieve the required Level of Information Need.
- Design and Information Management
- Coordinate BIM information with Design Managers, Engineering Leads, Project Managers and Construction Managers.
- Monitor design development and ensure approved changes are incorporated into coordinated models.
- Support the management of RFIs, technical queries, design changes and information releases.
- Review subcontractor and equipment-vendor BIM submissions.
- Ensure models and construction information are issued in accordance with the project programme.
- Maintain accurate document control, revision management and approval workflows.
- Manage project information through Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360 or an equivalent Common Data Environment.
- BIM Team Management
- Lead and mentor BIM Coordinators, BIM Engineers and discipline-specific modelling teams.
- Allocate BIM activities and monitor performance against project deliverables.
- Review and approve BIM outputs before formal issue.
- Provide technical guidance and support to design, construction and commissioning teams.
- Promote collaboration and effective information sharing across the multidisciplinary project team.
- Support the professional development of junior BIM team members.
- Construction and Site Support
- Ensure coordinated BIM models support construction sequencing, installation and commissioning.
- Produce and review coordinated drawings, builders' work drawings and installation information.
- Provide on-site BIM support and resolve model-related technical issues.
- Coordinate model updates arising from site conditions and approved installation changes.
- Support digital field tools, model-based inspections and construction verification.
- Assist with point-cloud surveys, laser scanning and reality-capture activities where required.
- Ensure the coordinated model accurately reflects installed systems.
- BIM Quality and Digital Handover
- Undertake regular BIM model audits and quality-control reviews.
- Ensure compliance with project classification, naming and information-management standards.
- Coordinate the production of accurate as-built models.
- Manage COBie information, asset data and digital O&M requirements.
- Ensure final BIM deliverables support commissioning, facilities management and building operations.
- Coordinate digital handover information with the client and project commissioning teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve BIM automation, digital workflows and project delivery efficiency.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Construction, Engineering, Architecture, Building Services or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years' BIM or digital construction experience.
- Previous experience working as a BIM Lead, BIM Manager or Senior BIM Coordinator.
- Experience delivering hyperscale data centres, mission-critical facilities or technically complex MEP construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary MEP and CSA coordination.
- Advanced working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Navisworks Manage.
- Experience using Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360 or an equivalent Common Data Environment.
- Strong understanding of ISO 19650 and UK BIM standards.
- Experience developing and managing BIM Execution Plans, MIDPs and TIDPs.
- Ability to lead federated model reviews and multidisciplinary clash-resolution processes.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work on site in Blyth, Northumberland.

Desirable BIM and Data Centre Experience
- Previous hyperscale or colocation data centre construction experience.

- Experience with 4D construction sequencing and 5D BIM processes.
