Tree Safety Assessor & Forestry Consultant
Evergreen Rural is a young RICS- accredited rural land management consultancy based in Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex. We have already had extensive experience and contracts within the rural land-owning community across the South, and we are now investing in a tree safety survey service for our growing client portfolio.
This is a genuine start-up opportunity within an established network. You will not be joining a business that already has this service line established. That means more responsibility, more visibility, and more ownership than you would have walking into a team at a larger consultancy.
Location
Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex (office-based, with regular travel across the South)
The Role
We are looking for an experienced, driven Tree Safety Assessor and Forestry Consultant to join our growing team and lead the roll‑out of tree safety surveys across the South.
Internally, we are training our team towards the Lantra Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) accreditation, and we seek an experienced professional to lead this developing area of the business. —We hope to build a regular portfolio of survey work and shape our tree safety offering to grow into a core part of what we do.
Alongside tree safety work, the new team member would assist with drafting and implementing Woodland Management Plans. Much of this work is linked to Countryside Stewardship agreements, providing a continually expanding pipeline of work supporting landowners with the sustainable management of their woodland.
As a business, we are extremely interested in developing an ecology arm. Applicants who bring additional skills and ambition to help us build this out will be favoured, for example:
- Ecological qualifications/surveys and reports
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting tree safety surveys and risk assessments for landowners, estates, and rural businesses across the South
- Leading and developing the tree safety survey service, including mentoring team members training towards Lantra PTI accreditation
- Building and maintaining a regular portfolio of survey and inspection work
- Advising landowners on woodland management, including compliance work linked to Countryside Stewardship agreements.
- Producing clear, professional survey reports and management recommendations for clients
- Maintaining and developing relationships within the rural land-owning community
- Working closely with the wider Evergreen Rural team to support the sustainable management of woodland across the region
- Bringing ideas and energy to help shape a new service offer as the business grows
About You
This role suits someone who wants to build something, not just maintain it. We are looking for ambition and motivation as much as a qualification.
- Relevant qualification in arboriculture or forestry (e.g. Lantra Professional Tree Inspection, Arboricultural Association Technician's Certificate, or equivalent)
- Proven experience conducting tree safety surveys and risk assessments.
- Genuine ambition and self‑motivation — comfortable building something new rather than stepping into a finished process.
- Sound knowledge of woodland management practice in the United Kingdom, ideally including revenue and capital Countryside Stewardship schemes.
- Confident, professional communicator, comfortable liaising directly with landowners and estate managers
- Full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel regularly.
- Resilient and entrepreneurial in outlook, with the drive to build and grow a client portfolio from the ground up.
What We Offer
We are upfront that this is a start‑up role: it asks more of you early on, and in return offers more than a fixed job description.
- Genuine ownership of a new area of the business, with the scope to shape it as it grows.
- A well-established client base and extensive contacts within the rural land‑owning community to build from
- A steady, growing pipeline of woodland management work.
- Support and mentoring towards further professional qualifications.
- Competitive Salary depending on experience — TBA.
- Bonus scheme – You will be eligible to join the companies bonus scheme which aims to reward you for your individual contribution to the business.
- Mileage compensation in line with HMRC allowances
