We are looking for a passionate and talented Software Engineer to join our growing product team.
In this role, you will work across the full development lifecycle contributing to both front-end, back-end, and infrastructure development, and maintain scalable software solutions that deliver exceptional user experiences in our web and mobile platforms.
You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, leveraging modern tools and frameworks to build robust, maintainable, and scalable applications.
The successful candidate will be an experienced mobile engineer who is also comfortable operating as a broader software engineering generalist when required.
This role will be hybrid between working from your UK home address and our Manchester office 3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction for the architecture, development, maintenance and modernisation of our mobile (Android and i OS) and cross-platform technologies
- Support and participate in decisions on important long-term strategic plans for our platform
- Optimise application performance and user experience
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues in a timely manner
- Product based development - collaborating with designers, product managers, clinicians, commercial, and other engineers to implement features and systems across web and mobile platforms
- Develop, test, and deploy safe, scalable, maintainable, and observable code across multiple stacks (including backend)
- Learning new technologies and frameworks in order to support and improve our platform
- Contribute to maintaining high agility, quality, efficiency, and morale in the team, through a continuous improvement ethos
- Proactively support and mentor colleagues in the team to deliver on the team’s commitments and constant development
- Ensure development proceeds according to the company’s commercial and technical strategies, in accordance with regulatory requirements, and agreed timescales
- Communicate with multiple technical and non-technical stakeholders across the company in an effective and positive manner
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies (including AI) to improve our products and development processes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and relevant or transferable industry experience
- Strong experience with Java Script, Type Script, React, React Native
- Experience working with modern React Native tooling and ecosystems, including Expo, Vite, Vitest
- Experience supporting or working within legacy hybrid mobile apps – Cordova, Redux, Kendo UI
- Traditional web technologies: HTML/CSS/SCSS
- Practical experience investigating native i OS and Android issues using Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin or Java
- Experience diagnosing application, network, build, plugin and platform-specific issues
- Understanding of component-driven architecture and reusable UI development
- Understanding of native mobile platform concepts across i OS and Android
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and handling asynchronous application state
- Familiarity with modern state management approaches in React applications
- Experience writing unit, integration, and end to end tests for frontend/mobile applications
- Strong understanding of mobile application lifecycles, platform-specific behaviour, application signing, store submission and release processes (i OS/Android)
- Knowledge of responsive and adaptive UI design across mobile and web platforms
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments
- Comfortable polyglot, some experience in other languages such as: Python, Java, C#, PHP
- Experience designing and maintaining large, critical systems with millions of users
- Excellent communication skills – brevity, accuracy, and adaptability
- Exposure to Dev Ops practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation
Advantageous
- Proficiency with relational and non-relational databases (e. g., My SQL, Mongo DB, Document DB, or Postgre SQL) and API development (REST or Graph QL)
- Productionisation of LLM-based systems (chatbots or similar)
- Experience working in healthcare, another regulated environment, or with sensitive personal data
- Significant experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud services
- Experience of back-end frameworks (e. g., Node. js, Django, or Spring Boot)
- Tech lead or line management experience
