At Evergreen Garden Care, Europe's leading garden care company, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hatfield site on a 12-month fixed-term contract, supporting the operation and performance of our woodfibre production area.
About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of our woodfibre processing equipment and associated site machinery. You'll be responsible for both preventative and reactive maintenance activities, helping to maximise uptime, minimise disruption, and ensure a safe and efficient production environment.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll work closely with production and engineering colleagues, applying your technical expertise to keep operations running smoothly while identifying opportunities to improve equipment performance and reliability.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across woodfibre processing equipment and site machinery
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime
- Supporting the safe and efficient operation of the woodfibre production area
- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities to improve performance and reliability
- Completing equipment inspections and maintaining accurate maintenance records
- Working collaboratively with production teams to prioritise and resolve maintenance issues
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with health, safety, quality and environmental standards
- Contributing to a proactive engineering culture focused on safety, reliability and operational excellence
About You
We're looking for someone who brings:
- Previous experience in a maintenance or engineering role within a manufacturing, processing or production environment
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- A recognised engineering qualification (ONC, HNC, HND or equivalent)
- The ability to work independently while also being an effective team player
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively
- A strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards
